On May 5th, Weston-super-Mare resident, Dan Kear is cycling for 24 hours solid in order to raise funds for Sue Ryder Hospice Care.

This March marks the twentieth anniversary of Dan's Grandad's passing, who was looked after by Sue Ryder Hospice, Leckhampton Court in Cheltenham. The challenge was initially scheduled to coincide with the exact date, but was postponed due to the unexpected snowfall in February and March.

Many local organisations have contributed to this tribute in the form of food, shelter for the duration of the challenge and fund raising aid. These include Miss Millie's Fried Chicken, Stones Cafe and The Bristol Hotel pub.

An Apetite for Challenge

This isn't the first physical challenge Dan has undertaken. Previously, as part of the Odd Balls cycling group, he completed and 252 mile cycle from Margate to Weston-super-Mare in under 24 hours and last year he kayaked along the river Thames with his friend, Jason.

"I like pushing the body to its limit. You get a buzz from it." - Dan Kear

Both Jason and other members of the Odd Balls team will be accompanying Dan for various legs of the challenge, cheering him on and sharing in the pain.

Anyone looking to donate to Sue Ryder as part of the challenge can do so via the event Facebook page here or by turning up along to seafront on the weekend with some loose change.
